This exhibit of Wolfman Jack on Baja California’s XERB is presented the way most Americans heard it, skipping across the border complete with infrequent fading and various superhetrodyne effects. It’s dated as being recorded on March 15, 1971, but it’s possible this one was composited from different hours, because Wolfman plays the same Calvin Arnold record twice within a few minutes. The show was broadcast from reels recorded in Los Angeles, and the order in which they were played was the responsibility of the XERB ingeniero.
The second half features a lengthy interview with NFL great and action movie star Jim Brown.
Did you know that Brown was the personal manager for The Friends of Distinction and an up-and-coming group called Earth, Wind & Fire?
Wolfman identifies Brown as his “number one man in the movies”, and they both discuss Raquel Welch.
(She appeared in 100 Rifles with Brown.) The interview runs nearly 25 minutes, but the recording ends before it is concluded.
