[Description from notes by John Adkins]
National Public Radio reporter Scott Simon profiled John Records Landecker during his show on WLS in the summer of 1978. This piece was a portion of a report on Chicago radio from All Things Considered. The exact date is unknown.
In addition to the documentary-style prose offered by Simon and Landecker’s answers to his questions, this aircheck includes a dynamite, short, top-of-the-hour jingle, after which I keep wanting Landecker to match the beats of the intro to Bennie And The Jets with something like, “nine … oh … clock … in the city!” (But that would be too “Drake”, wouldn’t it?)
There’s almost nothing above 5Khz here; the audio quality was originally at the mercy of the then-standard AT&T 5Khz network line (for those of us who remember radio network feeds in the days before satellites.)
